CBSouthern California convened on March 2nd at Whittier Hills Baptist Church, which is pastored by Robert Bishop. The theme was "Evangelism in the 21st Century," with keynote speaker Dr Jay Pandratz, pastor of the multicultural Sunrise Church in Rialto, speaking on "Go Light your World."
Breakout sessions were hosted by Scott Grandi, Steve Gerali, John Hill, Stephen LeBar and Dave Metzger. Following dinner on the grounds, Pastor Craig Allen led in a time of worship, and then Director Jim Smith introduced new pastors, affiliates, chaplains, and Board members. Arlene Mason was honored for her ten years of service as Women's Ministry Director, Dr. LeBar brought an update on CBAmerica, and reports were given on the partnership with Bibles for China and the ministry of Pine Summit Camp.
Four organizations challenged all to get involved in outreach ministry. These were New Song Community Church in Oceanside (Hal Seed), Gateways to Better Education (Eric Buehrer), California Family Council (Ron Prentice) and Pacific Justice Institute (Brad Dacus). A special musical treat came from the Fil-Am Christian Fellowship of Long Beach. Dr. Tony Pezzotta informed us that 51 of the Association's member churches are ethnic congregations, with 37 of these being Latino.
